Raised in Calgary, Winnipeg, Nairobi, and Boston, Erik Olson is an artist and graduate of the Emily Carr University. Olson followed his studies with a series of painting projects that led him to Honduras, Italy, England (London), Toronto, and New York City. In 2007 he returned to Canada to document the current mountain pine beetle infestations of North America. During the summer he attended a residency at The Banff Centre. In the same year, in collaboration with Erica Brisson, he opened IDEAL, a contemporary art space in a former gas station in downtown Calgary. In July and August of 2008 Olson’s painting series ‘Redshift’ was featured throughout The Art Gallery of Calgary. In 2009 he has had exhibitions at Summit Fine Art and the
SKEW Gallery in Calgary.
His paintings can be found in private collections in North America and Europe as well as in the collection of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
